1974
– National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) formally organized as National Association of Hospital Admitting Managers at Jamaica Hospital in New York City
– NAHAM began producing Access Management Journal

1975
– NAHAM held First Annual Meeting in Chicago, Ill.

1977
– NAHAM created Accredited Admitting Manager (AAM) certification for professionals with at least two years of management experience in Patient Access

1983
– NAHAM selected SmithBucklin as its association management company

1998
– NAHAM launched its first website

1999
– AAM certification changed to Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), which it remains today
– Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification launched for frontline staff in patient access

2003
– Access Management Journal transitioned from printed journal to online publication

2005
– NAHAM website reorganized and updated with improved site architecture

2007
– NAHAM released Salary and Benchmarks survey for Patient Access Professionals

2008
– NAHAM conference in Dallas, Texas had record attendance – 896 individuals attended the meeting

2009
– NAHAM created NAHAM Ambassador position to be the face and voice of NAHAM around the country

2010
– NAHAM launched NewsBrief, a weekly email newsletter featuring NAHAM and industry news

2013
– NAHAM celebrated 30 years of partnership with SmithBucklin
– NAHAM launched CMS and Joint Commission Survey Toolkits
– NAHAM launched Registration/FTE calculator

2014
– NAHAM released Patient Identity Integrity Toolkit
– NAHAM conducted member needs analysis

2015

– NAHAM launched AccessKeys, a set of Key Performance Indicators for Patient Access Professionals
– NAHAM membership grew 30 percent following launch of AccessKeys

2016
– NAHAM launched Patient Experience Toolkit
– NAHAM launched Disaster Preparedness Toolkit
– NAHAM launched Best Practices for Patient Data Collection to stimulate recognition and uptake of a standardized methodology for the collection of patient attributes considered essential for improved patient matching within and across provider systems
– NAHAM released updates to Patient Identity Integrity Toolkit
– NAHAM launched Regional Newsletters as a way for Regional Delegates to share information related to their regions
– NAHAM launched updated website with mobile responsiveness and improved navigation

2017

– NAHAM released AccessKeys 3.0 with new KPIs and domains
– NAHAM partnered with Litmos/Bridgefront to provide AccessKeys and Revenue Cycle education to members, as well as a new Learning Management System (LMS) for hosting education content

2018
– NAHAM released updated Affiliate Toolkit and state affiliation agreement
– NAHAM released updated Salary and Benchmarks survey for Patient Access Professionals
– NAHAM launched updated certification database
– NAHAM launched AccessKeys Award and recognized first awardees at 2018 Annual Conference
