NAHAM Membership FAQs

Q. Where do you find members of NAHAM?

NAHAM's growing community of patient access professionals represents all facility types in the healthcare continuum.

Q. What is the difference between Active and Associate membership?

A. Active members will typically be individuals in a management role. They have responsibilities for managing departments and or staff teams, delivering training or providing consulting services within the healthcare access continuum. Active membership dues are $195 for the duration of the calendar year.

Associate members are those working in non-supervisory front line staff positions in a healthcare setting who are responsible for collecting information from incoming patients regarding services needed. Associate members may also include students currently enrolled in an undergraduate accredited academic institution. Associate membership dues are $60 for the calendar year.

Q. How long does my membership last?

A. Membership dues cover the calendar year. Those who join NAHAM in the months of October- December will be members for the duration of that year plus the following calendar year.

Q. I took and passed the Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) or Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) Examination. Doesn't that mean that I am a member of NAHAM?

A. Earning the CHAA or CHAM credential does not convey membership in NAHAM. Members pay annual membership dues to have access to specific member-only benefits.

Q. I have at least one staff member that reports to me. Am I eligible for Associate Membership?

A. No. If you have staff reporting to you then you may apply for regular Active membership.

Q. Paying for an annual membership is expensive for me. Do you have any flexibility regarding the annual dues payment?

A. Yes, we offer an installment plan for Associate Membership dues only. Associate Member level dues may be paid with up to three installments of $20.

Q. Do I receive certification discounts as a NAHAM member?

A. Yes, but each membership does not offer the same discounts. Active members receive discounted CHAM exam application fees as well as discounted certification renewal fees. Associate members renew their CHAA certifications at no additional cost.

Q. Why would I want to become a member of NAHAM?

A. NAHAM is the premier professional membership organization for those working in scheduling, admissions, registration, patient finance, guest relations and other areas in healthcare. We establish best practices and subject matter expertise; provide an array of networking, education, and certification opportunities; and enable members to influence and promote high quality delivery of Patient Access Services.

Being a member has many advantages. It brings you into a nationwide community of others just like you – others you can establish networks with to learn and share. It also signifies commitment to the profession and shows your supervisor and peers that you are a professional – someone who wants to learn, apply what they learn, and grow in their career.

Q. What "benefits” would be provided to me as a NAHAM Member?

A. Members of NAHAM immediately become members of a community and gain access to a number of resources designed to help you leverage that access in order to learn the important issues impacting Patient Access Services and how you can help drive improvements in your own hospital facility. These resources include the:

  • Comprehensive Website
  • Discussion Forum
  • Access KnowledgeBase
  • Weekly Access News
  • Patient Access List Serve
  • AccessKeys®

Additional benefits include access to the NAHAM Career Center, inclusion in the membership directory, discounts on all NAHAM products, and an electronic copy of the field's distinguished scholarly journal – the Access Management Journal.

Additionally, a major benefit to those Associate Members that are CHAA certified is that they are waived from paying CHAA Certification Maintenance fees. You will still need to renew every two years but you will do so at no cost as an Associate Member.
