Get Involved in NAHAM – Join a Committee Today!


The NAHAM 2020 Call for Volunteers is open through July 17, 2020! NAHAM is recruiting new committee volunteers who are enthusiastic to get involved, eager to make a difference and committed to enhancing the patient access services profession.

Join a NAHAM committee to share your experiences and expertise, connect with fellow members and collaborate with your peers on programs and initiatives aimed at advancing the profession - all while developing skills that will benefit you both personally and professionally.


Do you work in an ambulatory care setting? We need you! Please consider volunteering your expertise on any of the NAHAM committees listed below. 


NAHAM is looking to recruit new volunteers for each of the following committees (click on each committee name for more information about the committee's work):

Certification Commission

The Certification Commission assures the quality and integrity of NAHAM's certification programs by developing and establishing program policies, regulations, and examination materials. Members interested in the certification process and assisting with the CHAM and CHAA examinations are encouraged to participate.

Committee members can expect to participate in these types of activities: 

  • Establish and administer all policies and procedures to assure the effective functioning of the CHAA and CHAM certification programs
  • Develop and administer valid and reliable certification exams through a comprehensive exam development process in consultation with the contracted testing company
  • Determine overall eligibility requirements of candidates for certification in accordance with the goals of NAHAM
  • Establish and communicate all pertinent decisions, goals, and strategies and accordance with the overarching goals of NAHAM

Meeting Frequency: Monthly one-hour conference calls


Estimated Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per month, 7-10 hours during exam development


Conference Committee

The Conference Committee assists with the planning of the NAHAM Annual Conference. The committee is charged with developing an educational program that meets the needs of conference attendees, and listening to attendee feedback to improve the event year over year. Members in ambulatory care settings are strongly desired for this committee.  


Committee members can expect to participate in these types of activities: 

  • Discussions to determine the theme of the Annual Conference
  • Vetting and ultimately determining keynote speakers
  • Evaluating the conference schedule and providing suggestions for improvement
  • Thorough review of learning lab proposals, which ultimately determines the program content for the conference
  • Providing feedback to selected learning lab speakers on content and their specific presentation
  • Lending subject matter expertise to the development of general sessions and networking activities
  • Assisting with onsite volunteer opportunities, including social events and the moderation of educational sessions

Meeting Frequency: Monthly one-hour conference calls


Estimated Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per month immediately following conference, 3-5 hours per month leading up to conference


Education Committee

Industry Standards Committee

The NAHAM Industry Standards Committee manages and maintains the NAHAM AccessKeys and all associated products (User’s Guide, Pre-Registration Tiers, Data Source Guide and etc). The committee is charged with regularly reviewing the Keys ensure appropriate definitions and benchmarks. The committee facilitates the annual AccessKeys award and is charged with regular education around the AccessKeys to NAHAM members through the Access Management Journal articles and webinars. 


Committee members can expect to participate in these types of activities: 
  • Review and recommend updates to the AccessKeys KPIs and User’s Guide descriptions  
  • Review the AccessKeys award criteria, make recommendations for updates or changes, and review AccessKeys applications annually
  • Plan, facilitate, participate in and/or lead quarterly AccessKeys education (typically webinars)
  • Plan and facilitate and/or draft quarterly AccessKeys articles for the Access Management Journal
  • Consider new KPIs or supplemental materials for the AccessKeys
  • Serve as a resource to members looking for assistance with the AccessKeys 

Meeting Frequency: Monthly one-hour conference calls


Estimated Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per month


Membership Committee

Policy Development/Government Relations Committee

Publications/Communications Committee

Strategic Projects Committee

The Strategic Projects Committee serves the membership through its work on matters key to the mission of NAHAM but not currently addressed by other committees. Membership on the Strategic Projects Committee is to represent a cross section of NAHAM's membership in order to fully utilize the talents of members from a variety of demographics. 


Committee members can expect to participate in these types of activities: 

  • Writing short articles or blog posts 
  • Informing NAHAM’s content strategy
  • Reviewing and revising the topic areas identified as high priority for content development and curation
  • Identifying hot topics for content development 
  • Recommending Subject Matter Experts to contribute to development of content in areas
  • Other work as assigned by the Board of Directors 

Meeting Frequency:Monthly one-hour conference calls (when working on a project)

Estimated Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per month (includes time participating on conference calls)

Members in ambulatory care settings are strongly desired for this committee.

All Active, Associate and Business Partner members are encouraged to apply. You must be a current member to NAHAM to apply and you must maintain your membership status during your term if you are appointed to a committee. Committee member appointments are made by committee chairs. Terms will last two consecutive calendar years and will run from August 1, 2020 – July 31, 2022.


Roles and Responsibilities

As a NAHAM committee member, you are expected to remain an active and regular participant in committee activities. Your roles and responsibilities as a committee member are listed below. Please read them carefully. 

Committee Members

  • Attend at least 75% of all meetings or calls
  • Respond to at least 75% of emailed requests for feedback/suggestions/input
  • Come to meetings prepared, having read meeting material in advance
  • Maintain the confidentiality of committee activities
  • Read all meeting minutes and provide feedback, if necessary
  • Complete work assignments in agreed upon time frame or notify chair of any delay
  • Adhere to the further requirements outlined in the committee charter

Failure to meet your committee responsibilities may result in your removal from the committee. By applying for a committee position, you confirm that you are willing and able to meet these responsibilities and to be an active, contributing member.
