In January 2009, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) finalized regulations to make modifications to medical data code set standards to adopt ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS (Rule: CMS-0013-F). There will be significant changes to the structure, format and number of codes available to allow for more specificity.
