BF10075 - EMTALA and Patient Intake V2

EMTALA, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, was created to ensure that patients receive medical treatment in cases of emergencies or being in labor, regardless of their ability to pay. Your hospital is required to comply with EMTALA, and there are serious consequences for ignoring it. This course will explain more about what EMTALA is and how you and your hospital can follow the law.

After completing this course, you will understand:
* Define the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, EMTALA.
* Discuss how EMTALA is applied and its basic requirements.
* Recognize EMTALA's impact on the patient intake process.
* Recognize the importance of EMTALA compliance.

This course introduces the issues surrounding compliance, specifically Medicare's billing, reimbursement, and coding policies, as well as the Office of the Inspector General's (OIG) work plan.

This course introduces you to the RAC program so you can understand its purpose as well as the relationship between it and the Revenue Cycle.

* Describe Revenue Cycle issues related to the RAC program.

BF80171 - Revenue Cycle Regulations, Compliance and the OIG V6

This course teaches you about the Federal Register, how rules become laws, and the purpose of both Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) and the Office of Inspector General (OIG), and their relationship to the Revenue Cycle.

 

Course Objectives

After completing this course, you will understand how to:
* State how an Act becomes a Law within the Federal Register.
* Identify where to find regulatory information.
* Define Medicare.

BF80172 - Revenue Cycle Regulations and Compliance Review V6

This course introduces and reviews various rules from HIPAA to the Medicare Three-Day Payment Rule and other regulations created by both the federal government and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in an effort to keep the revenue cycle in compliance.

 

Course Objectives

After completing this course, you will understand how to:

* Discuss the Federal Trade Commission Red Flag Rule.

* Define the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), including the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act).

* Discuss the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA).

* Describe the Consolidate Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), including the premium assistance provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
