Patient Access Week is a great time to maximize publicity for your department's special activities. An excellent way to maximize coverage is to send a press release to the local media.
Media outlets may require press releases to follow specific formats. A sample press release is provided, and following are tips on how to plan and organize your press release:
- Work with your Marketing or Community Relations Department to maximize exposure.
- Obtain administrative support and approval prior to submitting the press release.
- Use hospital/organization letterhead
- Review document for spelling and grammar.
- Highlight specific activities planned within your organization.
- Mail press release via first class mail.
- Follow the suggested timeline.
Patient Access Week is April 2 – 8, 2017. In order to meet media deadlines, the following timeline is suggested for media distribution:
Preparation date: First week in March
Distribution for approval: Second week in March
Editing final draft: Third week in March
Delivery to media: End of March

Celebrating Patient Access –Making Our Mark on the Patient Experience
April 2 – 8, 2017
Patient Access Week acknowledges the unique contribution patient access associates have on the patient experience. Patient Access associates are the first person patients and visitors encounter in a health care organization. These dedicated staff members fill the roles of receptionists, registration, insurance verification, financial counseling, and scheduling in the health care organization.
Patient Access Week is sponsored by the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM). NAHAM promotes best practices, standards, and subject matter expertise to influence and promote high quality delivery of Patient Access Services. NAHAM accomplishes its mission through networking, education, and certification opportunities.
In 2015, NAHAM launched AccessKeys. These key performance indicators allow NAHAM members to implement, track, and benchmark service delivery. NAHAM recently released AccessKeys 3.0, which added 12 new KPIs, and includes benchmarks specific to Patient Experience.
During Patient Access Week, the ______________________ (Insert Organization Name) has planned the following activities to recognize and celebrate the Patient Access Associates who daily serve our patients, visitors, physician, staff members, and community:
