Re: A Call to Service: Three Regional Delegate Positions Available with NAHAM


Opportunities to serve on the Board of Directors of NAHAM as the next Northeast Regional Delegate, Northwest Regional Delegate, and Southwest Regional Delegate are available.

Southwest Region: Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California, Hawaii

Northwest Region: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming

Northeast Region: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, Washington, DC

Current and former Regional Delegates have stated that serving as a NAHAM Regional Delegate has been a rewarding professional and personal experience.

Here are a few frequently asked questions:

1. HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED TO INVEST?

  • The position is voluntary. You will be responsible for sending quarterly newsletters to NAHAM members in your region, and maintaining relationships with affiliates in your region. Additionally, reports to the board of directors are due twice yearly.
  • The term of office is two years with a maximum of two terms of service.
  • One delegate is represented on each NAHAM standing committee. As such, you will serve as a member of the Membership, Publications and Communications, Special Projects, Education, or Policy Development and Government Relations Committee. The committees meet annually at NAHAM's Annual Conference and holds monthly phone calls.

2. HOW MANY MEETINGS DO I HAVE TO ATTEND?

  • There are two in-person Board of Directors meetings annually - one in the spring (April or May) and one in the fall (October or November). Travel to NAHAM offices in Washington, DC will be necessary for the fall board meeting.
  • We request consistent participation at monthly phone conference calls with the other Regional Delegates and NAHAM President.

3. WHAT ARE THE FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS?

  • NAHAM has an expense budget for the regional delegates. It is the responsibility of each delegate to maintain records to track and report expenses. Each year the NAHAM board determines the amount to budget for travel and lodging for board members to participate at the annual meeting and the fall board meeting. Typically the cost of the hotel for both the Annual Education Conference and the fall board meeting are covered. This may vary from year to year depending on our financial position.

4. WHAT WILL MY EMPLOYER HAVE TO DO?

  • Most employers find that an opportunity like this is an excellent educational opportunity for the employee as well as great national exposure for their facility. Each facility will have different guidelines and we would be glad to discuss any questions that may arise.

5. HOW WOULD NAHAM SUPPORT ME?

  • The first line of assistance to Regional Delegates is the Executive Regional Delegate. This Delegate is appointed annually as determined by the NAHAM President.
  • The NAHAM Ambassador, Maxine Wilson, (ambassador@naham.org) is also a valuable resource.
  • NAHAM's Web site is a second line resource for assistance.
  • Other Board Members and NAHAM staff are a third line resource for assistance.

6. WHAT WILL I GAIN FROM THIS EXPERIENCE?

  • Opportunities for learning include meeting and parliamentary procedure, strategic planning, resource management, organizational practices, public speaking and service. 
  • Volunteer service also provides these unique opportunities: 

    • Expand your network of professional contacts
    • “Pay forward” the benefits of the association’s work
    • Gain recognition from your employer, community or peers 
    • Build your resume/CV

7. WHO CAN SERVE AS A NAHAM REGIONAL DELEGATE?

  • NAHAM active individual members in good standing who hold (or will hold) their CHAM designation and are currently serving in the field of patient access services, are eligible to run. Please note that NAHAM vendor/Business Partner members are not eligible to hold elected office in the association, as delegates and officers must represent our general membership.

Timeline

March 3-25: Call for Nominations Open
By April 4: Slate approved, candidates notified
April 4-11: Candidate campaigning
April 12-May 3: Election Open
By May 6, winners will be notified.
By May 13, all members will be notified of the results.
