Q. I have at least one staff member that reports to me. Am I eligible for Associate Membership?
A. No. If you have staff reporting to you then you may apply for regular Active membership.
Q. Why would I want to become a member of NAHAM?
A. NAHAM is the premier professional membership organization for those working in scheduling, admissions, registration, patient finance, guest relations and other areas in healthcare. We establish best practices and subject matter expertise; provide an array of networking, education, and certification opportunities; and enable members to influence and promote high quality delivery of Patient Access Services.

Q. I took and passed the Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) Examination. Doesn't that mean that I am a member of NAHAM?
A. Earning the CHAA credential does not convey membership in NAHAM. Members pay annual membership dues to have access to specific member-only benefits.
Q. What "benefits” would be provided to me as an Associate Member?
A. Additionally, a major benefit to those Associate Members that are CHAA certified is that they are waived from paying the bi-annual CHAA Certification Maintenance fees. You will still need to renew every two years but you will do so at no cost as an Associate Member.
Q. I am not a supervisor or manager. Why would someone working in Patient Access at my level become a member of NAHAM?
A.The Associate Member category was designed expressly with you in mind. It is an entryway membership into NAHAM and is priced affordably to enable you to experience community in the premier professional membership organization dedicated to Patient Access Services and all of its support services in healthcare.
Q. Sixty dollars per year is expensive to me. Do you have any flexibility regarding the annual dues payment?
A. We sure do. As a special incentive only for those joining NAHAM at the Associate Member level dues may be paid with up to three installments of $20.
Q. I am a current NAHAM Member; can I switch to the Associate Membership and save money?
A. If your job description is similar to the first paragraph above and you are not in a management role, then you should contact NAHAM to discuss your membership options. However, please keep in mind:
- NAHAM will review all applications for Associate Membership to ensure that your role in your facility applies to the Associate Membership member type.
- The Associate Membership benefits differ from those of manager-level Individual Members.

Associate Membership is designed for those working in non-supervisory front line staff positions in a healthcare setting who are responsible for collecting information from incoming patients regarding services needed. This membership category is also for undergraduates currently enrolled in an accredited academic institution. Associate members will be entitled to one (1) vote and may serve as a member of a committee but may not hold office or serve as a Chair of a committee.
Membership dues are only $60 per year and include benefits designed especially for front line staff and undergraduate students with an interest in patient access services.
