This requirement is in place as the knowledge and skills required for competent occupational and professional performance evolve and change over time. Additionally, because the certification maintenance process encourages certificants to remain current in their field, it increases the confidence of the public, employers, and other stakeholder groups in the certification.
Only CHAA certified persons who earned their credential in an even year (2006, 2008, etc.) will need to participate in the certification maintenance program in 2010. Please refer to the chart below for clarification. Those seeking to maintain their certification will need to report a minimum of 30 professional development hours and work at least 1,500 hours in a position relevant to patient access services between April 1, 2008 and March 31, 2010.
