NAHAM Compensation and Benefits Survey In the summer of 2007 NAHAM conducted a compensation and benefits survey – the first time we have conducted such a survey since 2001. The goal of the survey was to provide benchmarks for compensation and benefits in the patient access services field; specifically among managers and frontline staff. The survey was sent to 1,426 members. The final submission count was 462 – an excellent response rate of 32 percent. With 462 responses, the margin of error is +/- 3.7 percent at the 95 percent confidence level. This means that the reader can be 95 percent confident that all members would have answered within 3.7 percent of the results that will be shown in the final report. The industry goal is to achieve +/- 5.0 percent at the 95 percent confidence level so NAHAM clearly surpassed that goal. Most respondents hold the position of manager or director. Responsibilities primarily include registration (outpatient and emergency department), inpatient admitting, and insurance verification. The respondents supervise (directly and indirectly) an average of 47 FTE’s. The average number of years of service in healthcare is 20 years with the average number of years specifically in patient access services at 14 years. Members earned an average salary of $63,860 – an increase of 4.6 percent over the previous year.
NAHAM Members may view the Executive Summary data on the member only area of the web site. The detailed survey results are compiled in a 38 page document which provides a high level of detail of salary and compensation data. Members may purchase the detailed bound survey document at the discounted price of $35 by logging in to the member only pages and then clicking here. Nonmembers do not have access to the Executive Summary but for $85 may order the full printed and bound version by clicking here.
Salary data are broken out for all positions and then for the major positions (director, manager, supervisor) by hospital ownership type, region, number of inpatient beds, education, certifications, and years in patient access services. Starting, average and highest hourly rates for front line staff are presented overall and broken out by hospital ownership, region, and number of inpatient beds. Benefits data are broken out by average percent cost paid by employer and average percent cost paid by employee. Many comments were captured as well that provide interesting insight into the many benefits that our members from across the nation receive.
We hope you find the information presented in the survey useful and interesting. |
