Committees

Our committees focus on areas of concern to the membership of NAHAM. Each committee is led by a chairperson and as many members as needed to carry out its function.  Our committees are:

  • Policy Development & Government Relations
  • Publications & Communications
  • Education
  • Special Projects
  • Meeting Organizing Committee (an ad-hoc committee appointed annually)

Committees of NAHAM are served by current dues paying members of the association who express particular interest in or possess relevant skills attributable towards the objectives of a committee.

Beginning January, 2012, all members of committees will have two-year terms of service. All terms will begin in January and end two years later on the last day of December. There is no limit as to the number of terms any committee member may have pending they maintain membership in NAHAM; however, those interested in returning for an additional term of service must complete the standard committee application form to indicate their interest and to inform the sitting committee chair of the compelling reasons why continued service is desired. It is the prerogative of the chairperson of each committee to determine the appropriate number of committee members, to review each application form, and to make the selections regarding composition of their committee.

In the event a committee member does not maintain membership in NAHAM, terminates their service to their assigned committee prior to their term expiration, or is removed from a committee due to lack of participation, the committee chair may choose to fill the open position. The policy is that any committee member beginning service outside of normal committee terms of service will have a term expiration of the last day of the second December of their service regardless of the point in the year when they joined the committee. For example, an incoming committee member is selected to fill a vacancy August 16, 2012. Their term expiration date will be December 31, 2014.

Service on a NAHAM standing committee is a tremendous opportunity to contribute, develop new skills, expand your professional network, and help directly impact the profession. When positions are available, we will seek members who will commit to fulfilling the objectives of the committee, be active participants, and be willing to make room for another NAHAM member to serve if they find that they are not able to fulfill their obligations as committee members.

When vacancies are open the application form will be posted on this site and an email sent alerting the members of the service opportunity. We will ask you what specifically interests you and compels you to apply and will wish to know what strengths you have that will benefit the committee.

We hope you will consider service on a NAHAM committee in the future!  The next Call for Volunteers will be held in the Fall of 2013.
